Professional Certifications:
- Registered Professional Reporter (RPR)
- To become an RPR, candidates must have the knowledge, skill, and ability to produce a high-quality verbatim record, which consists of a written knowledge test and three sections of a skills test, including Q&A at 225 words per minute, passing with 95% accuracy.
- Tennessee Licensed Court Reporter (LCR)
- To be licensed as a court reporter in Tennessee, an applicant shall submit proof of passage of the National Court Reporters Association Registered Professional Reporter examination.
- Certified LiveNote Reporter (CLR)
- The CLR is the only national certification that trains and tests realtime reporters on the technical aspects of providing realtime to attorneys or judges. The training teaches reporters to connect and troubleshoot the realtime transmission.
- Registered Merit Reporter (RMR) *
- The RMR exam consists of a written knowledge test that focuses on four areas of knowledge and three sections of a skills test, including Q&A at 260 words per minute, passing with 95% accuracy.
- Certified Realtime Reporter (CRR) *
- The CRR exam tests candidates on setting up and operating equipment, and accurately writing realtime for five minutes at 96% accuracy.
- Certified Broadcast Captioner (CBC) *
- The CBC is a two-part exam that measures the knowledge, skill, and ability of the candidate to produce an accurate, simultaneous translation and display of broadcasts, utilizing realtime translation software (television closed captioning).
- Certified CART Provider (CCP) *
- The CCP is a two-part exam that measures the knowledge, skill, and ability of the candidate to produce complete, accurate, simultaneous translation and display of live proceedings utilizing CART (Communication Access Realtime Translation). CART reporting is most often used in a classroom setting for hard of hearing students. The reporter can be physically in the classroom or provide the service remotely.
